January Term: A Saint Mary's College Tradition
January Term, a program unique to Saint Mary's College, is explained through the experiences of five students and one professor. (International footage is courtesy of students and professors who participated in the travel courses. All on-campus footage and all editing was done by Haley Nelson.)
Math and Art Combine through the Sport of Irish Dance
Ever since she saw a Riverdance performance at 5 years old, Ariana Hofelmann '21 has had a passion for Irish dance. Though she is not Irish herself, spending over a decade dedicated to the sport has given her a deep love and appreciation for Irish culture. Hofelmann describes the dance as having more of an emphasis on strength than grace, while at the same time competitors must make it look as effortless as possible. After years of training at dance schools in Houston, Paris, and San Francisco, and competing successfully at national and international competitions, Hofelmann retired last year after the 2018 World Irish Dancing Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. She still enjoys any excuse to get out her hard shoes and competition costume (onto which she glued the approximately 300 crystals herself).
